I read a book last year that has stuck with me, even if I have failed to live up to its dream. The gist of it is that the secret to having excellent conversations in groups of people is to take the time to ask table questions where everyone answers in their turn. The theory is that you get at least a few minutes where the entire group gets to interact, rather than side conversations dominating the entire time. Admittedly, I haven’t been great at implementing this, but I think that the thesis is correct. The author also argues that you should prepare your questions ahead of time to fit the group. Consider this: try is yourself, and, if you’re Liberty local, encourage me to do the same :).

Following up on yesterday’s comments on conversation:

I went on a scavenger hunt with some dorms on East Campus today and got to know my team to some degree. The most effective team bonding that we had was when we all discussed the same topic and listened as a group when one person spoke. Table questions (sans table) in action!
