Experienced Minecraft players all know that there’s only one Dragon Egg that spawns per world, and whoever has it on a given survival server is, by default, the coolest person. Elytra may be more useful and maces more deadly, but the dragon egg is in a league of its own.
So how, you may ask, does one get the egg?
Well, here’s a simple guide to getting the egg consistently, snatching it even before your friends have realized it exists.
Step One - Come Prepared
The reason the dragon egg is tricky to acquire is its behavior teleporting away before you can break it with your hand or pickaxe. The way to counter this is bring a block or set of blocks to forced the block to drop. The best option available to you is the humble torch. These are cheap, readily available and highly effective. Bring several to the dragon fight.
You also want to bring an ender chest with you just to be safe. Other players might notice that you’ve grabbed the egg, but once it’s in your ender chest, there’s absolutely nothing that they can do about it.
Step Two - Come
There’s no way you’re going to be able to sneak the egg out if you aren’t present for the fight. Make sure to pay attention to any coordinating bodies or server admins to learn when the End will be opened for players to engage in combat.
If you can go solo and beat the dragon, even better.
Step Three - Grab the Egg
Once the dragon is dead, skip the xp and immediately hit the egg so that it teleports. Find where it teleported to, and break the block two below it, place a torch where the block that you just broke was, and the break the block the egg is on. If you’ve done everything right, the egg will have dropped and all you need to do is put it in your ender chest.
Step Four - ???
Step Five - Profit
Congratulations, you have the dragon egg. With your newfound treasure, make sure the whole server knows that you deserve all the clout in the world, but be careful to never leave the egg unattended. Keeping it in your ender chest is the same option, but if you don’t want to do that, at least keep one eye open at all times when it’s out.
I hope this guide has been helpful, happy egg hunting!
