A Norman Rockwell painting shows
A man standing alone
He stands amid the seated crowd
The man, he stands, alone

Surrounding him are listeners
Whose ears he hopes to reach
The only tool he can deploy
Is his freedom of speech

That man alone can still speak out
His neighbors still will hear
Consensus stands against him but
His words invoke no fear

And though the town did not concur
To pressure he’d not bow
But times have changed in these past years
Will pressure bow him now?

But who will stand if he does not
What fool would take his place
So still he’ll stand and still he’ll speak
He’ll not desert his place
