My friend has visited this week
And I completely missed
The way she lingered all around
In slowly drifting mist

A beauty greater than a queen
Who had a noble reign
She lilts upon the sidewalks with
A softly pelting rain

Her stately features showed themselves
While ancient still so hale
She didn’t feel the need to wake
Attentions with her hail

Her joys so tantalizing out of reach
My appetite unwhet
Despite her waving with her might
And getting me all wet

But now I’ve heard her voice again
Her pitter-patter cloud
I hear her and I shall respond
With joy I laugh aloud

Old friend how I forgot your face
Your comfort in the day
Precipitating is your route
For you your love to say
