I went into the church today
And yanked upon the rope
To sound the bells with great aplomb
And magnitude and scope
The ringing goes out through the air
And through the churchyard gate
And tells the City of Fairfax
If we have ended late
It’d say if we were done with time
But hasn’t done so yet
I fear the dream of that remains
A rather distant bet
This was really fun. One of the guys at church just grabbed me and asked if I wanted to ring the bell, and I obviously said yes. We would have rung the bells earlier, but through some quirk of acoustic design, we couldn’t hear anything over the organ postlude (that thing is wildly loud in the balcony). Anyhow, after that was done, I yanked on the cord until the bell started ringing and gave it all ten pulls, though it sounded to me like the bell sounded an eleventh time too (don’t tell anyone).
Also, we might actually end early sometimes, I truly have no idea.
