The earth revolved around the sun
It’s made its circuit full
While I’ve composed a couple works
And shot a lot of bull
It started up with LU Meet
And its post-convo rot
Which I announced on every week
With a poetic thought
Or maybe back at NOVA first
When comms class was a bore
I wrote my notes in haiku form
Or let’s go back some more
In high school or second grade
We looked at poetry
But I’ll admit that in those times
It meant pure pain to me
But let’s return to just last year
I thought myself in love
And then Jane Austen quote came through
Like lightning from above
She said a sonnet tightly versed
Could cure an infant crush
Though I knew not what sonnets were
Desire I meant to smush
So I searched up pentameter
And learned what iambs do
I crunched along with bad meter
And made a mess or two
But sitting there at Liberty
I found my plan was flawed
For though the feelings cooled a bit
I found out something odd
The making up of rhyming verse
In English class deplored
Was not so bad as once I’d thought
I wanted to do more
I wrote a couple sonnets more
On Argo and on her
But then I laid my pen to rest
And didn’t write much more
Come homecoming from Liberty
I did some other things
Avoiding taking syllables
To make the words that sing
But on the warm and sunny wall
One Sunday afternoon
I caught up with an “age old friend”
And thought to write more soon
A sonnet of the lovely day
Was soon complete draft
But what to do with such a thing
That I had chose to craft?
I asked my friends on Instagram
By posting up a note
And only one responded, but
A simple “yes,” you wrote
And so with GIMP I spruced it up
Though I did not intend
The daily posting not right then
I just went in, hit send
The next morning I went to work
And inspiration struck
Another post another day
And now we’re in here stuck
I wrote about the beekeepers
And our office AC
The road trip that the fam went on
And what there was to see
I wrote a block for condo too
A ballad learned to write
A little bit of politics
For when we’re in that fight
There’s poker, haikus, volleyball
There’s arguments galore
There’s stories of a gallant knight
Golf, Catan, women, more
The fairies in a thunderstorm
The cryptic messages
A nickel nickel nickel streak
Known only to sages
The advent cycle every week
And feast days sometimes too
A message that I wrote for all
One only meant for you
I transfered to the substack when
The digital fast came
But content wise the daily grind
Would still remain the same
Then once again I moved the thing
That’s where we’re here today
It’s given me a chance right now
To have a thing to say
And now the year has gone by fast
I’ve had the joy to write
This long collection of short poems
It has been a delight
