The slope awaits the climbers step
To rise above the rocks
To go where few have trod before
Be human, deer, or fox
We rise above the boulder wall
First hand, then foot, then hand
To make our way among the heights
Where we survey the land
The spiders flee from falling feet
And other bugs take flight
As friends collect the bearings and
To a new rock alight
The sun beats down, but there is shade
Among the crags and hills
Where we can rest and eat a snack
From bottles water spills
The path is fraught but we won’t fall
Instead we will arise
To make it to a blessed sight
To feast on with our eyes
