Kentucky Bend, KY, or Bubbleland1 is a 26.9 square mile area completely surrounded by Tennessee and Missouri.

What?

Yes, that’s right, when they were determining the state borders, they weren’t clear on where the Mississippi flowed, so somehow it was made part of Kentucky.

Or I should say Virginia. The border is so old that when it was established, there wasn’t such a thing as Kentucky, or Tennessee for that matter, it was still part of North Carolina.

An uncited claim on Wikipedia also says that Tennessee claimed the land until 1848, and I choose to believe it.

While over 300 people lived in The Bend in 1880, there are now only 9 residents.

The more you know.
