Should Christians be concerned about existential AI risks
Demons/angles are conceived as immaterial, near-infinite (notably not actually infinite) intelligences who are hateful to the spiritual health of mankind
ASI conceived as a material, near-infinite intelligences which are (if misaligned (we don’t know how to align them)) hateful/indifferent to the physical health/existence of mankind

The difference between a demon and ASI is then merely form and power requirements — if ASI were achieved or believed to be achieved, it is entirely reasonable to think that it might be a demon in disguise.

Given this, Christianity posits a humanity that has been under siege by hostile superintelligence ever since the fall of Adam. We persist only through the grace of God.

We are not to deal with demons, is something similar applicable to ASI/AGI/current AI?

If incredibly intelligent beings have been whispering in our ears from ever, and people are still saved through God’s grace, there’s more to life than pure intelligence/charisma/persuasiveness. That’s good
