Apropos 25-10-8 - The Gam(bling) of Life
I learned today that you can bet on what people will spin in The Game of Life with a 10:1 payout. That’s pretty good when there are ten options to roll and I’m no statistician, but it seems to me that you should break even under such a scheme.
To be clear, that didn’t happen to me. I wound up $260,000 in debt, though that was the result of more than just bad bets.
I shouldn’t have won.
But when you have a modest understanding of what you’ll spin based relative to the position of the spinner and nothing left to lose (your opponents are winning the real game), you have the opportunity to do something really funny.
My sister is still mad at me.
(But seriously, who thought that it was good game design to add a rule that says that if you don’t think you’re winning at the end of the game that you can just pick a number and spin for it to win.)
