Along a winding water path
Through reeds and cattail stands
The turtles drift along the lake
To sometimes stop on land
To heat their bodies, fill with warmth
Then cool themselves again
While watching carefully for fear
Of hunters from their den
Where then they’ll scurry quick away
For safer shores to sun
And if you scare them you will find
Those little things can run!
