He only had a second
But that was all it took
To see her sitting quiet
Her nose stuffed in a book
A glimpse of glasses on her face
A flash of tied up hair
A light inside her deep blue eyes
As he went up the stair
A face seared on his visions frame
Locked up in memory
Where he attempted scatterbrained
To study history
And when he struggled into sleep
Awake far past his time
He saw that lovely female face
Woke up and wrote a rhyme
Despite his dreams, all facts he lacked
Biography was blank
If knowledge of her was a house
He only had a plank
In vain he searched, but did not find
In agony he dreamed
But never would he find the girl
Who had so brightly beamed
And to this day he wonders what
Could be the beauty’s name
If only he’d turned on the stairs
To meet his first-sight flame
