A canopy of green and gold
Compose of vaulted leaves
Surpassing every hall of stone
Excelling all the eaves
Resplendent and diffuse and light
A living roof above
Where every branch and stem and trunk
Was crafted full of love
Organic yet complete cover
Vibrant pigments fill
Not fading yet and beautiful
Though soon to lawn will spill
But even in the winter chill
No tree shall pass away
The spring will come another time
The lengthened days will be sublime
Inspiring another rhyme
But that is not today
