Inadequate to tell the tales
That I wish I could read
Unfinished are the epic poems
Which we so dearly need

My pressing bedtime’s part of it
But there is more as well
Vocabulary feels too small
And meter isn’t swell

Besides the ballad I am lost
Alliterative verse?
But maybe I will try my hand
I surely can’t get worse

And then perhaps I’ll write a lay
Or two in Middle Earth
When craft is honed to gleaming edge
And then I’ll prove my worth
