I hoped to hear the thunder roll
And watch the pouring rain
The drizzle disappointment drear
Just summons boredom bane

I wished to see the lightning flash
Not stumble through a mist
Which washes lazy little drops
As I begin to list

I yearned to hear a thrumming pulse
From roof and sidewalk too
But quietude acquaints itself
With blurry boredom’s due

But for all that, a silver thread
For raincoat I can use
Where normally it soaks right through
Utility askews
