To add context to 25-11-12 - Skong, Silksong is a 2d metroidvania (platformer with combat). With the joycons split, at any given time, one person can:

  • Move directionally
  • Choose the direction of attack
  • Dash sideways or down

and the other person can:

  • attack
  • heal
  • jump
  • play a musical instrument
  • float slowly downwards

In order to attack downwards, one player needs to hold the directional stick down, while the other needs to attack at the same time.

In order to navigate menus, one person needs to move the cursor, and the other needs to click.

Also notable, floating overrides the dash input, which means that the person who has the jump input can dramatically interfere with the player who has all other movements, often to their detriment.

We’ve been having a lot of fun and are ahead of pace from where we were in our own personal first-time playthroughs.
